A quiet place
It’s one of the sights in Instanbul – a place to visit. Away from the crowds there is a place of solitude where the fate of one young woman is already ordained. A ritual of pain, that must be accepted, and pleasure that drives her to ecstasy. All that is left is a naked body and a neatly folded pile of clothes. Soon enough everyone will get to know what happened to Gulay Arat.
Disenchanted youngsters reject the future mapped out for them. Drawn together, almost like one of the long lost tribes, they have their own meeting places. Anywhere away from parents. They have their own music, served up at a club only they frequent. Goths have created a separate world where they hide themselves under a cloak of doom and darkness. Close to hand someone has desecrated a church with a grotesque image of the ‘Goat of Mendes’ - as significant an act as any of the signs of rebellion dreamt up by disaffected youth.
