On Her Majesty's Secret Service by Ian Fleming

Summary

On Her Majesty's Secret Service - book cover Is it time for James Bond to give up the search for that villain Blofeld and whatever SPECTRE are plotting next? A different sort of life is offered after a win in a casino in Northern France, followed by a night of passion with Tracy, the daughter of Marc-Ange Draco, the cappo of Corsican gangsters, and a visit to the beach. That is until ‘M’ is persuaded, in the interests of ‘the service’, Bond should pose as an expert in the lineage of titled families and visit a Count Bleuville in Switzerland.

Not only could this man be the Blofeld they seek but, to get near to him, James has taken on the persona of one of the 'landed gentry': Sir Hilary Bray. Hopefully the real one will be nowhere near the ski slopes of St. Moritz where the Count has his clinic. The clients for therapy – young ladies all – enjoy James’ parlour games but neutralising Blofeld’s threat calls on all the resources at Bond’s disposal. However, marriage was never part of his plans, and certainly not at all what Mary Goodnight imagined he would do.
