A Cry For Help
In the darkness of the night the unforgettable and haunting pleas of a desperate woman chill the air. Jay Porter and his wife decide to help, unaware that a man has been shot dead – although that would have made no difference. Posing as a freelance reporter, Jay returns to the crime scene and questions the groundskeeper who stumbled across the dead man. Swept up in the moment, Jay divulges a little too much information for his own good.
Then a young black dockworker is savagely beaten and gunshots fired into a family home. Jay takes on the case, prepared to champion the cause of equal rights for black dockworkers. However, such is the danger to his clients Jay calls on his old flame and local Mayor, Cynthia Maddox, for assistance.
