Los Angeles Police – ‘The Good Guys’

Best Mystery - Harbour Nocturne 1

America has always been a melting pot – the promise it offers brings a blend of peoples from around the world, some from faraway, some from closer to home. A blend that is just as rich when it comes to who polices the streets of Los Angeles and who partners whom. Watch5 at Hollywood Station was no exception. Fran Famosa, a Cuban-American divorcee with a four-year-old daughter, is partnered with the Unicorn, Chester Toles, home grown but nowhere to be seen when there is work; Sophie Branson, who has given up on men after trying three husbands and has more time for animals, got Romanian Marius Tatarescu ; Brave young Britney Small, who already had to kill a man in the line of duty, teamed with aspiring actor Nate Weiss (so he’d be Jewish then) who had seen his previous partner shot; Chatterbox African-American Anthony Doakes worked alongside Japanese-American Mel Yarashi. Just as much variety in what they have to deal with on the streets as in their backgrounds.

Best Mystery - Harbour Nocturne 2

Two who are missing from that roll-call live by their nicknames, Flotsam and Jetsam, and live up to the expectations of Californian stereotypes. They’re divorced, they womanise but above all they surf, and then they surf some more. And have far less respect for their superiors than they have for the waves they ride. One other thing sets them apart, one of them has a false leg – which an informant has told Sergeant Thaddeus Hawthorne is the key for an undercover operation for Hollywood vice.
